Training Needed in the Film Production Sector
The need for training cited by film production crew is lower than other creative media industry ; when ask in 2004 half ( 55%) of the film production workforce reported a training or development need in all departments of film / movie industry in Nigeria and Africa in general , the same was the case of other (61%) in creative media workforce during a similar period .Training was needed by more locations (73%) and camera crew (66%) than construction crew (30%) ; more women (57%) than men (47%) ;and more younger than older crew ,example two thirds of 16-25 year olds compared with two fifths (46%) of crew aged 35 years and older reported training and development need .
Common industry specific areas cited are art and design and camera and common generic areas cited are finance and business, and general computer and administration which are also common areas in which training is highly required.
Barriers to Training to Experience
The up growing film industry like ours have a lot of short comings in this areas ,four fifths (80%) of film production workforce had experienced barriers to accessing the training the need , which is similar to the proportion of the workforce across the rest of the creative media industries (90%) ,The common reason cited by those in film production are fear of losing work through committing time in advance (43%) , difficulty taking time off (64%) and possible loss of earnings (53%) , whereas in the wider creative media industries common barriers are the expense of fees (32%) ,difficulty assessing the quality of courses (28%) , and employers not willing to pay for the fees (68%) .The Nollywood Academy London in collaboration with other film schools is looking forward in resolving and upgrading the standard to match the global film and movie world.
